How do I show a babysitter how to use neffy?
Short answer
Show them where the two devices are, go through the signs on your child's emergency plan, and teach three warnings: don't test spray it, keep the nozzle straight toward the forehead, and don't sniff. After the dose, call 911.
A good neffy briefing takes about five minutes:
- Show them where neffy lives, and that there are two.
- Go through the signs on your child's signed anaphylaxis emergency plan.
- Show the grip: thumb on the bottom of the plunger, a finger on each side of the nozzle. Practise only with a trainer device.
- Say the three warnings from the maker's instructions: don't test or prime it, insert it straight and pointed toward the forehead, and avoid sniffing.
- After the dose, call 911 and say epinephrine was given. A second dose can be given with a new neffy in the same nostril, starting 5 minutes after the first, if symptoms don't improve or get worse.
- Ask them to explain it back to you.
Then leave something that remembers it for them: the signed plan in the bag, and a black ResQBand Tap Card they can tap with most phones to open your child's emergency page and the maker's steps. The full guide is how to explain neffy to a babysitter or teacher.
