Questions

What is oral immunotherapy (OIT)?

OIT gives tiny, slowly increasing daily amounts of a food under an allergist's care, to raise the amount that causes a reaction. It takes months to years and isn't right for everyone, so it's a decision to make with your allergist. Food Allergy Canada and BC Children's Hospital have clear guides.

Is Xolair available for food allergy in Canada?

As of June 2026, Food Allergy Canada says omalizumab (Xolair) isn't yet available in Canada for food allergy. In the US it was approved for food allergy in 2024. Ask your allergist for the latest.

Do I need an anaphylaxis emergency plan?

If you or your child has been prescribed epinephrine, yes. A written plan lists the allergies, the signs of a reaction and what to do, and goes to school, daycare and caregivers. Food Allergy Canada, the CSACI, FARE and the AAAAI all have free plans to fill in with your doctor.

Knowledge helps. So does a plan for the moment it matters.

A tap on the ResQBand Tap Card opens your emergency steps and a Call 911 button on most phones, and the helper can alert your emergency contacts with one more tap. The kit adds a tracker, a temperature disc and a thermal pack for your epinephrine.
