Is a nasal epinephrine spray easier to carry than an auto-injector?
Short answer
Most people in a 2026 Canadian study thought so. 99% called the nasal spray compact and easy to carry, against 52% for the auto-injector, and 83% said they could bring it anywhere without planning, against 33%. Whichever you carry, keep two doses with you.
In a Canadian study of 90 people presented at the CSACI meeting in October 2026, participants tried trainers of both devices and rated seven statements about carrying them. The nasal spray scored higher on all seven:
- Compact and easy to carry: 99% vs 52%
- Could bring it to any activity without planning: 83% vs 33%
- Could have it during sports: 93% vs 48%
- Could carry it without feeling self-conscious: 84% vs 47%
- Gives peace of mind: 98% vs 96%
Two of the study's authors work for ALK-Abelló, which sells neffy, and it measured perceptions, not real-world carrying. Still, carrying is a real problem: in one US survey of people prescribed auto-injectors, only 44% always carried one.
Size changes what you can use. The ResQBand Wrist Band holds a single-dose nasal spray on the wrist, and the Thermal Pack fits two auto-injectors or a nasal spray 2-pack.
