Questions

Is it normal to feel anxious about food allergies?

Yes. Some worry keeps you careful; it becomes a problem when it stops you eating, going out or sleeping, or when it's hard to switch off. The guides here help you tell the difference, and a food allergy-informed therapist can help when it's too much.

How do I find a therapist who understands food allergies?

The Academy of Food Allergy Counseling has a searchable directory of food allergy-informed therapists in Canada, the US and the UK, including online sessions. Your allergist or family doctor can also refer you.

How can I help my child with food allergy anxiety?

Stay calm yourself, talk about the allergy in a matter-of-fact way, practise what to say and do through role play, and build their confidence step by step. Food Allergy Canada and BC Children's Hospital have guides for parents.

From ResQBand

Knowledge helps. So does a plan for the moment it matters.

A tap on the ResQBand Tap Card opens your emergency steps and a Call 911 button on most phones, and the helper can alert your emergency contacts with one more tap. The kit adds a tracker, a temperature disc and a thermal pack for your epinephrine.

The ResQBand kit on a red studio set: the Wrist Band with the black Tap Card, the Thermal Pack with the red Tap Card and two epinephrine auto-injectors, two neffy devices, the Forget-Me-Not Epi Tracker and the Temp-Alert Disc

General information, not medical advice. We link to other organizations' resources; we don't control them, and a listing isn't an endorsement. Something out of date or missing? Email info@westernallergy.com. In an emergency, use epinephrine and call 911.
